Trustee

For nearly 25 years, I’ve been self-employed running my own businesses, whilst spending all my leisure time on or around the inland waterways. This experience has given me a great understanding of canal trading, from both the traders’ and organisers’ perspectives. I’m accustomed to working constructively with event organisers, navigation authorities and fellow traders.

Between 2013 and 2018, I operated a fuel boat business. In 2018, we purchased and restored the historic 1935 butty Nebulae, which we paired with our motorboat Adrastea and formed Star Crafts. Together, we began travelling and trading along the canal network, participating in festivals, RCTA markets and towpath locations.

As a qualified Boat Safety Scheme Examiner, I conduct inspections primarily during the winter months. I also regularly assist in organising canal festivals, often taking on the role of harbour master and helping with trader layout boat movements and safety.

Currently, I serve as a trustee of the Roving Canal Traders Association, where I support canal trading heritage boating and well-run events. My practical, approachable and experienced nature, coupled with a deep understanding of traders’ needs and organisers’ requirements, helps to ensure the smooth operation of events.
